Princess Cruises Announces 2023 Alaska Cruises & Cruisetours

princess cruise alaska 2023

You will still find all the traditional elements of a cruise vacation like pools, bars and lounges, restaurants, and entertainment spaces to keep you occupied between ports of call. When sailing Princess Cruises to Alaska, your cruise ship will provide the perfect backdrop to your majestic destinations. But, on Princess Cruises, you won’t feel overwhelmed by trying to do everything on the ship as well as while ashore. Given the number of ships and departure points, this allows the cruise line to offer a variety of cruise lengths as well beyond the traditional 7-day cruise. Guests even have the option to extend the cruise with a land tour, but more on that in a bit. While most of our cruises have been roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver, our recent Majestic Princess cruise was our first one-way sailing.

Princess cruises past some Alaskan glaciers

New for 2023, Princess is offering an expanded Wild for Alaska Seafood menu. Guests can expect a rotation of fresh Alaska seafood dishes in the main dining room as well as the World Fresh Marketplace. Some of the dishes on the MDR menus included Wild Alaskan Salmon, Bering Seafood Stew, Alaskan Ale-Braised Short Ribs, Alaska Crab Cake or Salmon Cake, Alaskan-Caught Halibut, Cod, or Tuna, and more. It’s true that Princess Cruises has earned quite the reputation when it comes to cruising in Alaska. And for good reason, as there are several pros of sailing Princess Cruises to Alaska.

Canada & New England cruise itineraries

The cruise line sails to numerous ports throughout Alaska, along with plenty of scenic cruising of fjords and glaciers. Rush across the snow on a dog sled with a professional musher, fly fish for salmon in fresh rivers and soar over miles of glacial tundra in a helicopter. Watch migrating humpback whales from the deck of a catamaran or Native craftsman carve a traditional totem pole, and expand your Alaska cruise experience.

This industry-first initiative, introduced in 2022, features a rotation of fresh Alaska seafood dishes, along with destination-inspired cocktails made from local spirits. Princess Cruises has partnered with Pacific Seafood, Alaska Seafood, and Alaska Leader Seafood, all known for their environmentally responsible practices and sustainable fishing methods, to develop this unique dining experience. Guests can indulge in a variety of Alaska seafood, including multiple varieties of salmon, wild Alaska cod, halibut, rockfish, Dungeness crabs, spot prawns, and razor clams, highlighting the freshest ingredients from the region. Denali National Park boasts the continent’s highest peak, and Glacier Bay National Park is one of the world’s largest protected areas. You can discover even more magnificence during your Alaska cruisetour at Wrangell-St. Elias and Kenai Fjords National Parks, where one of the four largest ice caps in the world invites guests to explore its terrain.

Our award-winning North to Alaska program brings local personalities, culture and cuisine on board and ashore to immerse you in all things Alaska during your cruise to the Great Land. Originally launched in 2004, the Sapphire Princess was refurbished in 2018, and can hold 2,670 guests and 1,100 crew. It is part of the Grand class of ships, with many of the same features and amenities as its sister ships, although it only has 18 decks, as compared to 19 in ships like Sapphire Princess, which also has about 200 more cabins.

Guests can enjoy cruises from seven to 11 days, departing from San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, B.C. And Anchorage (Whittier) as well as cruisetours which take guests 500 miles into the heart of Alaska – where they seamlessly transfer from ship, to train to Denali, all in one day. In terms of specialty restaurants, there are also fewer options than many mega-ships from competitor brands. On most of the Princess ships sailing Alaska, you will only find a Sabatini’s Trattoria and a Crown Grill steakhouse. Majestic Princess does feature a brand new seafood restaurant, The Catch, which is also coming to Discovery Princess soon.

Relax on top-rated beaches, explore ancient ruins and get immersed in colorful cultures — the laidback Caribbean has lots to love for everyone. Discover the Eastern, Western or Southern Caribbean with a variety of unique itineraries and departure ports. For the first time, Princess is offering a season of 6- and 8-day Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages roundtrip from Port Canaveral on Caribbean Princess®. (Can't choose? What does differentiate Princess from some of the competition is its extended time in port and preferential docking locations. For instance, NCL docks at Ward Cove in Ketchikan which requires transportation to get to the Downtown area unlike other cruise lines who dock closer. One of the highlights of MedallionClass is OceanNow where you can order food and drinks anywhere on the ship. Whether you want to order a latte or cappuccino to your stateroom while you are scouting wildlife from your balcony or a pina colada while lounging in the solarium, you can do so through the app. We had a chance to dine at The Catch during our sailing and really enjoyed it. While not much has changed in terms of theming in the venue, the food selections were certainly a step above the former Bistro Sur La Mer.

In the land where dogsledding reigns supreme, retired dog musher Libby Riddles comes on board as a part of our North to Alaska program to share stories of her success. As the first woman to win the 1,100-mile Iditarod sled dog race, she has many tales to tell about her road to triumph. Find out what it takes to capture some of the best images the Great Land has to offer, from the very photographers who took them. Our North to Alaska program welcomes award-winning photographers Mark Kelly, Carl Johnson, Daryl Pederson and Kim Heacox on board to share their Alaska photography experiences.

Or listen to harrowing Tales from the Deadliest Catch fishermen and climbers who have summited Denali during your Alaska cruise. The Harriman Expedition discovered College Fjord in 1899 and named the towering glaciers after the great East Coast universities of the United States, like the Harvard Glacier. With the largest collection of tidewater glaciers in the world, your scenic Alaska cruise through the fjord will make a lasting memory. It was the first ship of the Royal Class, the largest class of ships in the Princess fleet, providing cruisers with lots of amenities and venues onboard. Weeklong cruises will voyage to  Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Victoria, British Colombia, and scenic cruising of Glacier Bay National Park. One of the larger ships sailing to Alaska, Majestic Princess, has a capacity for 3,560 guests and 1,346 crew.

For the 2023 season, the ship will be doing weekly sailings starting in May all the way through to September. Part of the Royal class of ships, the ship first sailed in 2017 and was originally designed to sail from Shanghai and has many unique offerings, such as a classic Chinese dining venue from acclaimed chef Richard Chen. Part of the Grand class of ships, the Crown Princess is well known for providing great activities for adults and kids in a traditional cruising environment. The three-story atrium is a hub of fun, and the ship has numerous complimentary and specialty dining programs - even afternoon tea.

Get up close to renowned glaciers on a flightseeing tour, zipline through Tongass National Forest and hike along the mountainside of Ketchikan’s Deer Mountain Trail which takes you 3,000 feet above sea level. Whether you prefer to traverse by land, sea or air, our cruise excursions in Alaska will bring you on a wild ride. See the Great Land’s most famous animals — like humpback whales — on our Alaska shore excursions. Or keep a lookout for Denali National Park’s Big Five — including moose, caribou, grizzly bears, wolves and Dall sheep — while on a bus tour in the park.
